Welcome Home Reception for the Hong Kong, China Delegation to the 15th Doha Asian Games

The 15th Doha Asian Games was successfully held in Doha from 1 to 15 December 2006. To celebrate the best-ever performance achieved by the Hong Kong, China Delegation, a Welcome Home Reception for the Hong Kong, China Delegation to the 15th Doha Asian Games was held today at the Hong Kong Stadium. It was officiated by the Honourable Donald TSANG, Chief Executive of the HKSAR Government and the Honourable Timothy FOK, President of Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (Federation). We have the honour that the Honourable A. de O. SALES, the Hon. Life President of the Federation was also present to grace the ceremony. In the reception, the President commended the outstanding achievement attained by the Hong Kong Delegation and a group photo with the medalists was taken subsequently.

Hong Kong participated, for the first time, in the 2nd Asian Games held in Manila in 1954. Since then, Hong Kong has taken part in every Asian Games. For the 15th Asian Games, Hong Kong sent its largest-ever Delegation comprising 281 athletes and 126 officials to compete in 30 sports events. It ranked 15th among 45 Asian NOC countries/ regions participating in the Games and won its largest-ever medal haul of 6 gold, 12 silver and 10 bronze.

To express gratitude to all sports officials and volunteers for their hard work and commitment in promoting sports in Hong Kong this year, a “Get-together Party of Olympic Family 2006” was also held in the same occasion, right after the reception. Furthermore, souvenirs were presented by President of the Federation to the following sponsors in appreciation of their support to the Hong Kong Delegation:-

• Qatar Airways;
• Samsung Electronics H. K. Co. Ltd; and
• Theme Corporation Fashion (Asia) Limited.
