Bank of China Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards 2006 Vote for Our Athletes!

Organized by the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC), title- sponsored by the Bank of China (Hong Kong), the Bank of China Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards 2006 starts accepting Online Public Voting from today (15 January 2007). The Press Conference was held today at the Olympic House to announce the list of nominees, some of athletes also made their presence today to chit chat and share with the attendees.

The SF&OC received a total of 148 nominations from 31 member Associations. Majority of the winners in the category of “Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards 2005” are nominated again this year and there are totally 46 nominees vied for this prestigious title. The Hon. Timothy FOK, GBS, JP, President of the SF&OC, said that he was very proud of Hong Kong athletes’ unyielding spirit when they were being confronted with the opponents during competitions. He appealed for Hong Kong citizens’ active participation in the public voting to pay tribute to local athletes for their efforts and prosperous sports achievements.
The four categories which accept public voting are "Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards"; "Hong Kong Junior Sports Stars Awards"; "Hong Kong Sports Stars Award for Team Only Sport"; and “Hong Kong Sports Stars Award for Team Event". All the nominees' profiles and nominees' list are posted on the SF&OC Website at www.hkolympic.org . The closing date for public voting is 14 February 2007 and a total of FIVE lucky voters will each win HK$1,000 cash coupon sponsored by adidas.
The Prize Presentation of the Awards will be held on 12 March 2007 with prize money amounting HK$506,000 to be awarded to the winners of the night. The winner of the newly added title "Bank of China (Hong Kong) Best of the Best Award" will in total receive the prize money of HK$80,000.
In order to encourage citizens' active participation in this event, the SF&OC is delighted to receive the support from the Samsung Electronics H.K. Co. Ltd. and the Oriental Press Group Limited once again to launch the "Guess the Winners Contest" for the category of "Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards". The total value of the prizes sponsored by Samsung will be over HK$30,000. Details of the Contest will be published on both the Oriental Daily News and The Sun in due course.
On a separate vent, the 6-member Hong Kong Delegation to the Australian Youth Olympic Festival 2007 will be departed for Sydney, Australia tonight (15 January 2007). We take this opportunity to wish them good luck and all the best in the Festival.
