Bank of China (Hong Kong) 50th Festival of Sport was kicked off by a glamorous Opening Ceremony Celebrities and Artists appealed to “Sport for All”!

The Bank of China (Hong Kong) 50th Festival of Sport (FOS), organized by the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (Federation), sole sponsored by Bank of China (Hong Kong) and subvented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), was kicked off today (25 March 2007) by the glamorous Opening Ceremony at 3:00pm at the Wanchai Sports Ground.

To convey the message of “Sport for All” to the member of the public, the Federation had joined hands again with the Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) this year to launch a glamorous Opening Ceremony with the elements of sports, arts, and entertainment. The Opening Ceremony started with a Marching-in Ceremony to allow all participants and audience to experience the atmosphere of the Olympic Games. Sequence of exciting performances included Lion Dance, Jazz Dance, Gymnastics performance, Brazil Dance and Capoeira. To promote the staging of 2008 Beijing Olympiad Equestrian Event in Hong Kong, the Federation specially arranged the Equestrian demonstration and photo-taking with ponies for the audience.
Led by Masters of Ceremony Mr. NG Ka Lok and Ms. Sharon LUK of TVB, the Opening Ceremony was covered by TVB and the highlights will be broadcasted on Jade Channel at 2:45p.m. on 31 March 2007 (Saturday). To arouse public’s awareness of the FOS, pop singing group SOLER was appointed again as the FOS Ambassadors. SOLER together with other singers performed in the event, and TVB artists also grouped with local athletes to compete in the Mini Sports Games. The ceremony reached its climax when a large scale of “Sport for All Exercise” was performed with over 2,000 audiences at the same time.
Officiating guests at the Opening Ceremony were The Hon. Timothy FOK, GBS, JP, President of the Federation; Mrs. Carrie LAM, JP, Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs; Mr. KAI Chi On, General Manager of Bank of China (Hong Kong); Mr. Thomas CHOW, JP, Director of Leisure and Cultural Services; Mr. PANG Chung, BBS, Hon. Secretary General of the Federation; and Mr. Kenny CHOW, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Bank of China (Hong Kong) 50th Festival of Sport.
Following the magnificent conclusion of the Opening Ceremony, altogether 76 sports competitions, fun days and demonstrations organized by 64 National Sports Associations will be held from now on until June throughout the territories.
