"90 Young Athletes Olympic Tour" on 5-9 April 2007

On this special day of having exactly 500 days countdown to 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (“SF&OC”) proudly announced the “90 Young Athletes Olympic Tour - Talented Young Hong Kong Athletes Beijing Olympic Exchange Tour” (“the Tour”) is going to be held on 5-9 April 2007.

This Olympic Tour, organized by the SF&OC and the Hong Kong Olympians and Meritorious Athletes’ Commission, and solely sponsored by the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited (“BOCHK”), is to commemorate the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and the 90th Anniversary of BOCHK. The Tour will provide a valuable opportunity for 90 talented young Hong Kong athletes to know and experience more of the Beijing Olympic Games and the great achievement of sports in the Mainland of China.
The Press Conference of the Tour was held in the Jockey Club Lecture Theatre, Olympic House today, with the kind presence of Officiating Guests – The Hon. Timothy T. T. FOK, GBS, JP, President of SF&OC and Mr. HE Guangbei, Vice Chairman and Chief Executive of BOCHK. Both being the Honourary Heads of the Delegation, the Hon. Mr. FOK and Mr. HE presented a Tour Flag to Mr. PANG Chung, BBS, Hon. General Secretary of SF&OC, Miss Ho Ka Lai and Miss Yung Ka Yan, Ambassadors of the Tour, as well as representatives of the 90 young athletes in the press conference, wishing them every success for the Tour.
The Tour was open for public application in February 2007. After receiving the nominated applications submitted from 22 National Sports Associations of Olympic Summer Sports, the organizer has successfully selected 90 young athletes, aged from 10 to 20 coming from 22 various Olympic Summer Sports, for the Tour, mainly based on their sports performance and potential. Apart from these 90 young athletes, 4 renowned Hong Kong athletes, namely Wong Kam Po, Ho Ka Lai, Michael Tse and Yung Ka Yan were also invited to join the Tour as Ambassadors. During the 5-day tour in Beijing, the delegation will visit the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games competition venues, Training Venue of National Squad, the Beijing Sport University and the Beijing Olympic Countdown Clock. Sharing session with national team athletes will also be arranged. For the young athletes to know more about the Mainland, famous scenery spots like Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City and Great Wall will also be visited during the tour.
