The Sports Federation & Olympic Committee is proud to be the first Asian NOC officially joining the IOC Athletes Career Programme

12.08.2007
The IOC and Adecco are partnering on the Athlete Career Programme since 2005. The concept of the programme is to enhance lives of Elite and Athletes in supporting them in their career development in particular during their transition to another career after their retirement from sports.

“The fact that 1,000 athletes have requested professional advice over these last two years shows the growing popularity of this Programme”, underlined the IOC President, Count Jacques ROGGE who is visiting Hong Kong from 11 August to 12 August 2007.
The Comprehensive Programme is currently being delivered by Adecco in 17 countries and Hong Kong will be the first country in Asia officially joining the programme. The Federation is excited with the impact that we can make together with Adecco, the leader in the human resources industry on global perspective.
The Athlete Career Programme is focussed on two elements:
1) Career Development Training and
2) Job Placement Support.
Both elements are critical for the long term career success for athletes. As in sport, preparation, training and then competition are all critical for nurturing the true champions who win the respect of the world. Moreover, athletes possess very powerful personal characteristics, these same traits support them in being successful in the business world too.
“Sports competition requires an extensive personal investment from athletes that it leaves them limited time to prepare for their professional life. This is where we come in joint-handedly with Adecco and other well-known prestigious corporations to deliver career training and to place our athletes in the right jobs”, supplemented the Hon. Timothy T. T. FOK, President of the National Olympic Committee of Hong Kong and IOC Member. “We are very proud to support our athletes to leverage their demonstrated strength and traits in sport to find new challenges in the workplace and gain a foothold in the global labor market.” he added.
The Hong Kong Athlete Career Programme will be administered by the Federation in accordance with the agreement signed between the IOC and Adecco. The details of the programme will be announced in due course.
