Launching Ceremony of the Bid for the 5th East Asian Games & to welcome the Visit of IOC President, Chevalier Dr. Jacques Rogge

It was encouraging that the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) had received full support from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government as well as that of the community for bidding of the 2009 East Asian Games since June 2003. A Bid Committee, comprising of outstanding sports leaders and government officials had been formed when the inaugural meeting was held on 18 August 2003.
To mark the opening of the series of bid related activities for the period from now on until early November, a Launching Ceremony was held on Saturday, 30 August 2003 at 6:00pm at the Hong Kong Stadium.

The SF&OC was honored to have the presence of Chevalier Dr. Jacques Rogge, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), who after his visit of the 22nd Summer Universiade at the city of Daegu in South Korea, came especially for this occasion. In addition, the Hon. Timothy T. T. Fok, President of SF&OC, Mr. Kwan Wing Wah, Acting Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs of Home Affairs Bureau and Ms. Anissa Wong, Director of Leisure & Cultural Services will officiate the Launching Ceremony with the support of members of the press and sports leaders from member Associations who also made their presences here.
To celebrate the event, a Tai Chi demonstration by the Hong Kong Wushu Union and also a traditional dragon and lion dance performance were organized to conclude the event. A group photo of all the guests was taken at the Hong Kong Stadium to memorize this remarkable moment.
Afterward, guests were invited to the Jockey Club Lecture Theatre of the Sports House for the IOC film “Celebrity Humanity”.
Finally, a dinner reception was served at Sports Bar inside the Hong Kong Stadium in honour of the visit of Chevalier Dr. Jacques Rogge to Hong Kong.
The Bid Team’s activities will be stepped up right after the Launching Ceremony, and would continue until 2 November 2003 when the good tidings of Hong Kong’s success in bidding of the 5th East Asian Games will be finally announced at the 19th East Asian Games Association Council Meeting.
