Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards 2003 Press Conference

The Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department join hands for the fourth year to launch the most prestigious sports event in Hong Kong – the annual “Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards 2003”.

Besides continuing to receive the generous support of AIA Foundation, Bonaqua, Television Broadcasts Limited, Cathay Pacific Airways Limited and ESPN STAR Sports, Samsung Electronics H.K. Co. Ltd., Roadshow Holdings Limited and McDonald’s Restaurants (Hong Kong) Limited also joined in to support this year’s event.
Member Associations of the Federation are invited to submit their nominations of athletes on or before 5 December 2003 for the following 5 categories:
• Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards
• Hong Kong Junior Sports Stars Awards
• Hong Kong Potential Sports Stars Awards
• Hong Kong Sports Team of the Year Award
• Hong Kong Sportsmanship Sports Stars Awards
With the AIA Foundation sponsoring an additional cash prize of HK$100,000.00 for the top of the six winners of the “Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards”, the top of the six winners of the “Hong Kong Potential Sports Stars Awards” and the winning team of “Hong Kong Sports Team of the Year Award”, the total prize money of this year reaches to HK$446,000. Apart from that, winners or winning team will each receive a trophy to recognize his/her outstanding achievement.
Same as in last year, Cathay Pacific Airways Limited has generously sponsored six round trip economy class tickets from Hong Kong to any Asian destinations for the winners of the Hong Kong Junior Sports Stars Awards. Besides, ESPN STAR Sports will be offering a scholarship of HK$15,000 each to two young athletes age 18 or under who will be selected from nominees of all categories, except the “Hong Kong Sports Team of the Year Award”.
In order to encourage more public’s awareness of this prestigious event, members of the public can vote for their six favorite athletes from 20 December 2003 to 6 January 2004 through the web site of SF&OC of HK, China (www.hkolympic.org). With the support of TVB, the public can also vote for their favorite athletes through their mobile phone by dialing #93782 during the same period. Details of the event will be released to the public in the web site of SF&OC in due course.
To publicize this event as well as to encourage the public to vote for their favourite athletes, we are fortunate to be able to solicit the generous support of Roadshow Holdings Limited in sponsoring airtimes on the “Roadshow programme”. A 30-second promotional video will be shown on TV in KMB buses during the public voting period. Besides, SF&OC has specially designed a calendar card, which will be distributed to primary and secondary school students in Hong Kong to attract them to participate in this event.
The results of each category will be announced in the Award Presentation Ceremony held on Monday, 16 February 2004 at the Grand Hall, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in conjunction with the annual Spring Dinner of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China
