The 24th East Asian Games Association Council Meeting ● 2008 Rules & Sports Committee Meeting and Medical Committee Meeting ● Hong Kong, 24 June 2008

We are pleased to announce that the 24th East Asian Games Association (EAGA) Council Meeting, 2008 EAGA Rules & Sports Committee and Medical Committee Meetings were successfully held today in The Regal Hongkong Hotel, Causeway Bay. Delegates coming from the Member National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of the East Asian zone including China, DPR Korea, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Macau, Mongolia, Chinese Taipei, Associate Member NOC of Guam, and representatives from the Tianjin Sports Bureau, the 5th East Asian Games Planning Committee and relevant Government Department attended the Meetings.

In the morning session, two Committee Meetings were held in the Regal Ballroom, B1, The Regal Hongkong Hotel. The Medical Committee Meeting was held at 10:00 a.m. in which various issues regarding Doping Control arrangement and medical services of 2009 East Asian Games were discussed. Representative from Auxiliary Medical Service also introduced their services to the meeting delegates.

After that, the Rules & Sports Committee Meeting commenced at 11:00 a.m., issue such as venue renovation and construction, competition schedules and rules of 2009 East Asian Games were discussed.

After the luncheon, the Opening Ceremony of the 24th EAGA Council Meeting and 2008 EAGA Rules & Sports Committee and Medical Committee Meetings was kicked off at 14:15 in the Regal Ballroom, B1, The Regal Hongkong Hotel. The Opening Ceremony was officiated by The Hon. Timothy T.T. FOK, GBS, JP, President of EAGA and Vice President of OCA, and Mr. Thomas CHOW, JP, Director of Leisure and Cultural Services. Mr. YU Zaiqing, IOC Member and Vice President of COC, and the Elected Officers from the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China were also made their presence in the Ceremony.

The closed door meeting started right after the Opening Ceremony. The 24th EAGA Council Meeting commenced in the afternoon at 14:45. The proposal of an additional Vice President in EAGA was endorsed and Mr. YU Zaiqing, IOC Member and Vice President of COC, was approved to serve in this post. Furthermore, progress report made by the 5th East Asian Games Planning Committee on the subjects of hospitality, ceremonies, sports programme, medical services, anti-doping, transportation, security, ticketing and media services of 2009 East Asian Games were discussed. The Council Meeting concluded by the presentation of 6th EAG progress report by the Tianjin Sports Bureau. The meeting ended at 17:00.
