Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards 2003 Media Luncheon

The Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department join hands for the fourth year to launch the most prestigious sports event in Hong Kong - the annual “Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards 2003”. Besides the continued generous support of AIA Foundation, Bonaqua, Television Broadcasts Limited, Cathay Pacific Airways Limited and ESPN STAR Sports, the event has also received sponsorship from Samsung Electronics H.K. Co. Ltd., Roadshow Holdings Limited and McDonald’s Restaurants (Hong Kong) Limited.

Winners of the Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards 2003 will be announced at Presentation Ceremony on Monday, 16 February 2004 at 5/F, Grand Hall, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre at 7:00 p.m. in conjunction with the annual spring dinner of SF&OC of HK, China. Sports celebrities, officials of associations, elite athletes, commercial sponsors and senior government officials will attend the event.

This year, SF&OC of HK, China received a total of 51 nominations from 28 Associations for the “Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards”, 38 nominations were received from 21 Associations for the “Hong Kong Junior Sports Stars Awards”, 17 nominations were received from 17 Associations for the “Hong Kong Sports Team of Year Award” and 37 nominations were received from 22 Associations for the “Hong Kong Potential Sports Stars Awards” and 11 nominations were received from 11 Associations for the “Hong Kong Sportsmanship Sports Stars Awards”. The event received the highest nominations for each category respectively compared to the last three years.

From 20 December 2003 to 6 January 2004, the community can vote for their six favourite athletes among the 51 athletes in the “Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards” through the web site of SF&OC of HK, China at www.hkolympic.org. In return for their support, voters have the opportunity to join the Lucky Draw and win a cash coupon of HK$1,000 sponsored by adidas Hong Kong Limited. The Lucky Draw result will be published on 19 March 2004 on South China Morning Post and on the web site of SF&OC of HK, China. Apart from that, supported by TVB, the public can also vote through their mobile phones by just
inputting # 93782. The Mobile Operators and Telemedia Company will charge HK$1 for each call.
