Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards 2003 Presentation Ceremony

The annual most prestigious sports event in Hong Kong ¡V Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards 2003 Presentation Ceremony has successfully concluded on Monday, 16 February 2004 in conjunction with the annual Spring Dinner of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China at Grand Hall, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Representatives from National Sports Association, senior government officials, elite athletes, overseas distinguished guests, commercial sponsors, entertainment personalities also made their presence in the ceremony to demonstrate their staunch support to Hong Kong Sports.

This year, we were delighted to have more commercial sponsors supported for this ¡§Oscar¡¨ event: AIA Foundation, Bonaqua, Samsung Electronics H.K. Co. Ltd., Cathay Pacific Airways Limited, ESPN STAR Sports, McDonald¡¦s Restaurants (Hong Kong) Limited, RoadShow Holdings Limited and Television Broadcasts Limited.

Followed the speeches delivered by the Hon. Timothy T T Fok, SBS, JP, President, SF&OC of HK, China and Dr. Patrick Ho, JP, Secretary for Home Affairs, Home Affairs Bureau, the presentation of each category began. The six winners of Hong Kong Junior Sports Stars Awards below each received a cash award of HK$10,000, a trophy and a round trip air ticket sponsored by Cathay Pacific Airways Limited:

  1. Ms. Chan Ho Ling from Hong Kong Squash
  2. Mr. Fu Shu Keung from Hong Kong Sports Association for the Mentally Handicapped
  3. Mr. Brian Hung from Hong Kong Tennis Association
  4. Ms. Lai Wai Ling from Hong Kong Sports Association for the Mentally Handicapped
  5. Ms. Lee Ka Man from Hong Kong, China Rowing Association
  6. Mr. Yu Wing Ho from Windsurfing Association of Hong Kong

The winners below each received the ¡§ESPN STAR Sports Scholarships to Hong Kong¡¦s Young Athletes¡¨ of HK$15,000 sponsored by the ESPN STAR Sports:

  1. Mr. Cheng Chung Hang from Hong Kong Wushu Union and
  2. Ms. Lai Wai Ling from Hong Kong Sports Association for the Physically Disabled

 The six winners of the Hong Kong Potential Sports Stars Awards below each received a cash award of HK$8,000 and a trophy:

  1. Ms. Chow Tsz Ki from Hong Kong Amateur Fencing Association
  2. Mr. Leung Chu Yan from Hong Kong Table Tennis Association
  3. Ms. Ling Wan Ting from Hong Kong Badminton Association
  4. Mr. Martin Sayer from Hong Kong Tennis Association
  5. Ms. Tsang Ka Yan from Hong Kong Sports Association for the Mentally Handicapped
  6. Ms. Yip Tsz Wa from Hong Kong Amateur Swimming Association

Mr. Chung Kin Man from Hong Kong Mountaineering Union was the winner of the Hong Kong Sportsmanship Sports Stars Awards and received a cash award of HK$8,000 and a trophy.

The winning team of the Hong Kong Sports Team of the Year Award, Women¡¦s Table Tennis Team from the Hong Kong Sports Association for the Mentally Handicapped, received a cash award of HK$50,000 and a trophy. The team members were Ms. Lai Wai Ling, Ms. Wong Ka Man and Ms. Wong Man Yan.

  6. Mr. Wu Siu Hong from Hong Kong Tenpin Bowling Congress

For the newly introduced cash prizes sponsored by the AIA Foundation for the top winner of the Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards, top winner of the Hong Kong Potential Sports Stars Awards and the winning team of the Hong Kong Sports Team of the Year Awards, they respectively received cash prizes of HK$40,000, HK$30,000 and HK$30,000. The winners and the winning team were:-
