XLVII Festival of Sport Opening Ceremony Concluded Magnificently
28 March 2004 (Sunday), 3:30pm

The XLVII Festival of Sport (FOS) organized by the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) and supported by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) was launched on 28 March 2004 (Sunday) at 3:30pm in the Arena of the Queen Elizabeth Stadium. It is an annual sporting spectacular aiming to educate the public to the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and boost the community spirit through sporting activities. Various performances containing the elements of sport, art and entertainment were shown during the Opening Ceremony.

The Ceremony commenced with the marshalling brass band and HKSAR¡¦s flag bearers from the Hong Kong Sea School and placard holders of the Hong Kong Adventure Corps, which led representatives of the 73 Member Associations into the Arena.
The Festival was kicked off with a dragon and lion dance, followed by a lighting ceremony. Line Dance and Gymnastics performances were then presented by the Hong Kong Western Dance Council Limited and the Gymnastics Association of Hong Kong, China respectively. The Federation specially arranged the arrival of the Ambassador of FOS, Boy¡¦z, to fill the arena with an atmosphere of excitement. To carry it on, various X-Game performances, including Aggressive In-Line Skating, Skate-boarding and Bicycle stunts, were shown before the conclusion of the Opening Ceremony.
The officiating guests included: the Hon. Timothy T. T. FOK, President of the SF&OC; Mr. SIU Yu Bun, Alan, Deputy Director of Leisure Services of the LCSD; Mr. PANG Chung, Hon. Secretary General of SF&OC; Mr. Ronnie M. C. WONG, Hon. Deputy Secretary General of the SF&OC and the Chairman of the XLVII FOS Organizing Committee (OC); Mr. Kenny CHOW, Vice-Chairman of the XLVII FOS OC; other OC members included Mr. FAN Kam Ping and Mr. YEUNG Hoi Cheung. Besides, Ms. HO Ka Lai and Mr. HUNG Chung Yam, Olympians, were the masters of ceremony on that day.
During the Opening Ceremony, the Federation also presented the Incentive Awards 2003, all drawn from the Federation¡¦s savings amounting HK$562,740, to 12 Member Associations (Appendix I) in honor of their athletes¡¦ excellent performance in Multi-sports Games and Championships.
Following the Opening Ceremony, 70 events will be held from now until June throughout Hong Kong. For further information Festival program booklets are obtainable at the 18 District Offices of the LCSD or you may download it from our Website at www.hkolympic.org.
