¡§Promotion of Hong Kong Athletes¡¦ Readiness in participating in the 5th East Asian Games¡¨

The ¡§Promotion of Hong Kong Athletes¡¦ Readiness in participating in the 5th East Asian Games¡¨ is organized by the SF&OC and subvented by the LCSD. This promotional project aims at motivating public to support their Hong Kong athletes to strive for their best for the 23 EAG sports, including, aquatics, athletics, badminton, basketball, bodybuilding, bowling, cue sports, cycling, dancesport, football, hockey, judo, rowing, rugby seven, shooting, squash, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, windsurfing and wushu, at the coming EAG being held in Hong Kong. This promotion project will be divided into two main parts: (i) the video promotion; (ii) the Sports Talks cum Sports Demonstration & Participation (Sports D&P).

In the video promotion, the selected Hong Kong athletes of the 23 sports of 5th EAG will be interviewed and video recorded. Through their self explanation and introduction to their respective sports, Hong Kong citizens are able to have a better understanding of their athletes as well as each of the 23 EAG sports. The videos will also introduce the history and structure of EAG and our way forward of 2010 Asian Games & 2012 Olympic Games. The videos will be broadcasted at different media including Jade Channel of TVB at 7 pm every Saturdays from 30 May 2009 to 28 November 2009, RoadShow on buses, HKC News Express on East and West Rails, internets and screens possibly available from late May 2009 onwards.
The Sports Talks cum Sports D&P will be held at the HongKong International Trade & Exhibition Centre (HITEC) from 6 July 2009 for 4 consecutive days. It is targeted to demonstrate the 23 EAG sports to local primary and secondary school students and participants from 18 districts. By means of the Hong Kong elite athletes explaining and demonstrating their sports in person, the general public will, on top of having close contact with their athletes, explore the charisma of their favourite sports in person.
This promotional project is supported by 2009 East Asian Games (Hong Kong) Ltd., Hong Kong Sports Institute Ltd., Home Affairs Bureau, Home Affairs Department, Education Bureau and 23 concerned National Sports Associations.
