We Are Ready for the Singapore 1st Asian Youth Games!

The Team Welcome Ceremony (Flag Raising Ceremony) for the Hong Kong, China Delegation to the 1st Asian Youth Games (1st AYG) was successfully held today (29 June 2009) at 2:30 p.m. in the Raffles City Shopping Centre, Singapore.

We were honored to have Mr. TSANG Tak Sing, JP, Secretary for Home Affairs, Home Affairs Bureau, The Hon. Timothy FOK, GBS, JP, Vice President of Olympic Council of Asia cum President of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, representatives from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and Singapore Asian Youth Games Organizing Committee, together with 21 Hong Kong, China Delegation members made their presence in the Ceremony.

In addition, the Hong Kong, China Delegation had attended the Opening Ceremony of the 1st AYG this evening at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, to witness the official opening of this inaugural Asian Youth Games. Young athletes from all over Asia came together at this same place in celebration of youth, sports and friendship.

Regarding the latest situation of the Hong Kong Football Team, four of our young football players have been confirmed infected by Influenza A, H1N1 in Singapore on 22 June 2009, while three of them, the other 12 athletes and 5 officials were in quarantine until 27 June 2009. The last player in hospital has been discharged earlier today to join his team members back in the Athletes Village. A “Respect Cup” has been specially arranged by the Singapore Asian Youth Games Organizing Committee to be held on 30 June 2009 at 9:00 a.m. with the Singapore Sports School in Jalan Besar Stadium after their hard working preparation, training and the Olympic value of respect, and the entire Football Team will be returning to Hong Kong in the evening.

As the Hong Kong Football Team could not participate in the 1st AYG, the Hong Kong, China Delegation which comprises of 28 athletes currently, will represent Hong Kong to take part in 5 out of 9 official sports: Aquatics (Swimming), Athletics, Bowling, Sailing (Windsurfing) and Table Tennis.
