The Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games Commence Soon - Flag Presentation Ceremony for the Hong Kong, China Delegation Held Today

The 2009 East Asian Games (EAG) will be held from 5 to 13 December 2009 in Hong Kong with a total of 22 sports. Hong Kong will participate in all 22 sports namely: Aquatics, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Bowling, Cue Sports, Cycling, DanceSport, Football, Hockey, Judo, Rowing, Rugby Sevens, Shooting, Squash, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Volleyball, Weightlifting, Windsurfing and Wushu.

Under the leadership of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, there are a total of 382 athletes and over 100 team officials to compete in the EAG as compared with a total of 230 athletes and team officials in the last EAG in Macau, this is the ever largest contingent of the Hong Kong, China Delegation in the multi-sports Games history. During the Flag Presentation Ceremony, the Hon. Timothy FOK, President of the Federation proudly stated that right after the Vietnam 3rd Asian Indoor Games, our community, as the host of the Games, will rally around them, brandishing our flag, supporting each other to strive towards our goals.
The Federation is grateful for the staunch support of the HKSAR Government which is demonstrated by the Chief Executive, the Hon. Donald TSANG, GBM’s presence and presentation of the SAR flag to the Chef de Mission, Ms. Vivien LAU, JP, at the Hong Kong Stadium. Other distinguished guests, included Mrs. FUNG CHING Suk Yee, JP, Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Leisure and Cultural Services Department and few Consul Generals of the participating countries or territories also made their presence to grace this occasion. Before the conclusion of the Flag Presentation Ceremony, all guests pledged the Delegation a great success in the EAG – “Be the Legend”.
We are also pleased to announce that American International Assurance Company (Bermuda) Limited (AIA) will continue to offer the “Athletes Insurance Awards” established in 2004. AIA will offer fully paid-up Whole Life Savings Insurance Plan and 15-Year Term Insurance Plan to each medallist of Hong Kong, China Delegation in the coming Summer and Winter Olympic Games, Asian Games and East Asian Games from 2009 to 2012 to honour their contribution on sports. Details will be announced later.
Lastly, the Federation would like to express our heartfelt appreciation for the support from the Home Affairs Bureau, Official Sportswear Sponsor of Hong Kong, China Delegation – adidas Hong Kong Limited, Official Uniform Supplier – Fiffel Pierre and the community.
