“AIA Athletes Insurance Awards” Agreement Signing Ceremony AIA & SF&OC join hands to support local athletes

The “AIA Athletes Insurance Awards” Agreement Signing Ceremony, lead by the Hon Timothy T. T. FOK, GBS, JP, President of Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) and Mr. Jacky CHAN, Chief Executive Officer of American Insurance Assurance (AIA) Hong Kong & Macau, was held on Thursday, 26 November 2009 afternoon at Auditorium VIP Room, 3/F, Hongkong International Trade and Exhibition Centre (HITEC), with the presence of elite athletes including bowlers Mr. WU Siu Hong and Miss. Vanessa FUNG Suet Yee.

The Hon Timothy T.T. FOK, GBS, JP, President of SF&OC mentioned that, “We hope to receive more supports from private corporations in development of Hong Kong sports. By utilizing the resources obtained by them to the local sports associations in a proper manner, we believe more local master of sports would be trained.”
To commemorate the tragic death of Mr. HUI Cheung Kwok, our 3rd East Asian Games Medalist bowler, who suddenly passed away on 18 April 2003, the SF&OC, apart from setting up a fund of HK$690,000 under his name for his family, established separately the above captioned scheme to protect our elite athletes by offering them an insurance scheme, named “AIA Athletes Insurance Awards” sponsored by AIA, to Hong Kong athletes who have won medals in the following multi-sports Games, namely Olympic Games (both Summer and Winter), Asian Games (both Summer and Winter), and the East Asian Games during the period from 2004 to 2008. In order to benefit more athletes, the SF&OC proposed to reset the scheme after 2008. Having undergone lengthy negotiation between the Federation and AIA, the scheme was extended to cover until 2012 successfully.
The Federation would like to take this opportunity to express the deepest gratitude to AIA for their generous support on behalf of athletes. The Federation would also like to convey its heartfelt thankfulness to Hopewell Holdings Ltd. for sponsoring the venue of this Ceremony, and AIA for providing insurance for this event.
