Starting of the Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games (EAG)

The Team Welcome Ceremony (Flag Raising Ceremony) of the Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games for all nine participating National Olympic Committees (NOCs), namely China, D.P.R. of Korea, Japan, Republic of Korea, Macau, China, Mongolia, Chinese Taipei, Guam and Hong Kong, China was successfully held on 4 December 2009 at 3:15 p.m. at the Olympic Square of Hong Kong Park.

24 Hong Kong, China Delegation members were led by the Chef de Mission Ms. Vivien LAU, JP to attend the Ceremony. The Flag of nine participating NOCs were raised after the welcome speech by Mr. TSANG Tak-sing, JP, President of the 5th East Asian Games Planning Committee and address by the Hon. Timothy T. T. FOK, GBS, JP, President of the East Asian Games Association.

On the first day of official competition (5 December 2009) Cycling- BMX athlete Mr. Steven WONG won the first EAG Gold Medal in BMX Men’s Elite Event and honored to receive the medal from the Hon. Timothy T. T. FOK, GBS, JP, President of the East Asian Games Association. In the afternoon, the Men’s Cue Sports 15-red Snooker Team won another Gold and Mr. Eric LEE and Mr. LEE Chen Man won a Silver and a Bronze in Men’s Cue Sports English Billiards Single respectively.

The Opening Ceremony was held in the evening at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza and the Victoria Harbour, Mr. Steven WONG represented the Hong Kong, China Delegation to carry the Hong Kong SAR flag marched-in with another five athletes of the Delegation.

A total of 383 athletes are representing Hong Kong, China to participate in this fifth edition of the East Asian Games.
