Celebration Ceremony for the Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games Welcome Home Reception for the Hong Kong, China Delegation to the Vietnam 3rd Asian Indoor Games cum Get-Together Party of the Olympic Family 2009

The Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games was successfully concluded on 13 December 2009 respectively. To celebrate the outstanding performance achieved by the Hong Kong, China Delegation, a celebration ceremony, jointly organized by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Government Region (HKSAR) and the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (Federation) was held today at the Hong Kong Central Library.

This glamorous event was officiated by the Honourable Donald TSANG, Chief Executive of HKSAR; the Honourable TSANG Tak Sing, Secretary for Home Affairs; and the Honourable Timothy FOK, President of the Federation. In the ceremony, the Honourable Donald TSANG and the Honourable Timothy FOK commended Hong Kong athletes for their outstanding achievements attained in the Games as well as congratulated Hong Kong, with the support from the community and all different sectors, making the Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games a great success. In the same occasion, the officiating guests presented the Certificates of Appreciation to the medalists of the Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games. The souvenirs were also presented by the Federation to adidas Hong Kong Limited, Eiffel Pierre Uniform and American International Assurance Company (Bermuda) Limited in appreciation of their support to the Hong Kong Delegations.
For the Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games, Hong Kong sent his largest-ever delegation comprising 383 athletes to compete in 22 sports events. Hong Kong Delegation won his largest-ever medal haul of 26 gold, 31 silver and 53 bronze in the Games, ranking the 4th in the medal tally among 9 Asian delegations participating in the Games (Appendix I).
To celebrate the successful conclusion of the Vietnam 3th Asian Indoor Games on 8 November 2009, a celebration ceremony was held at the Hong Kong Central Library today. A total of 77 athletes had competed in 11 sports events. Hong Kong Delegation won 6 gold, 10 silver and 19 bronze medals in the Games, ranking the 8th in the medal tally among 32 Asian NOC countries/ regions participating in the Games (Appendix II).
In the same occasion, in order to celebrate the Hong Kong athletes for their outstanding achievements obtained in the Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games and encourage athletes to strike for their best performance in the coming international multi-sports Games, American International Assurance Company (Bermuda) Limited (AIA) extended the “AIA Athletes Insurance Awards” for another 4 years from 2009 to 2012 by offering incentives in the form of paid up Whole Life Saving Insurance Plan and 15-Year Term Insurance Plan to the medalists of East Asian Games, Asian Games (both summer and winter games) and Olympic Games (both summer and winter games) during the period. Mr. Jacky CHAN, Chief Executive Officer (Hong Kong & Macau) and Mr. Joe Cheng, Vice President and Deputy General Manager of AIA took this opportunity to present a dummy certificate to the medalists of the Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games.
To express gratitude to all sports officials and volunteers for their hard work and commitment in promoting sports in Hong Kong this year, a “Get-together Party of Olympic Family 2009” was also held right after the ceremony.
