Olympic Sports and Literature Competition 2001 Prize Presentation Ceremony

The Olympic Sports and Literature Competition, jointly organized by the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China; and the Education and Manpower Bureau, the Hong Kong Schools Sports Federation and the Radio Television Hong Kong, was successfully concluded, leaving the Prize Presentation Ceremony to be held on 9 November 2001 at 4:15p.m. at G/F, Lecture Theater of the Hong Kong Central Library, officiated by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) President, Chevalier Dr. Jacques Rogge and the Wife of the Chief Executive, Mrs. Betty Tung.

The Literature Competition mainly divided into 3 categories, which are age under 12 (Chinese Language only); age 12 to 18 (Chinese Language); and age 12 to 18 (English Language). The participants based on the values of "Excelling oneself"; "Fair play"; "Joy in effort"; "Respect for others"; and "Balance between body and mind" as themes for literature or story writing with the purpose to promote the Olympic spirit through their engagement in their competition.

The Federation received over 700 pieces of literature works and winners were chosen by the Judging Panels after their scrutiny. Each category has one champion; one 1st runners-up; one 2nd runners-up and five consolation prizes. Each winner will be awarded with one trophy and cash awards of $3,000, $2,000, $1,500 and $800 in that order for the winners, champion, 1st runners-up, 2nd runners-up and consolation prize.

The 24 pieces of winning literature works (8 pieces in each category) will be sent to IOC's Literature Competition and the IOC will publish all winning works in their original languages after selection. In other words, this competition offers not only a valuable chance for winners to represent Hong Kong but to compete with oversea candidates in the competition.
