Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China Signs Agreement with Adecco Hong Kong To Strengthen Athletes¡¦ Post-Athletic Career Supports

The ¡§Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) Adecco Support Services Participation Agreement¡¨ Signing Ceremony, lead by the Hon. Timothy T. T. FOK, GBS, JP, President of SF&OC, and Member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Mr. Patrick GLENNON, Global Director, Adecco IOC Athlete Career Program (ACP), was held on Thursday, 27 May 2010 afternoon at Olympic House, with the presence of elite athletes including retired East Asian Games Silver Medallist swimmer Ms. Sherry TSAI Hui-wai, former Mr. footballer LI Kin-wo, serving windsurfer Mr. HO Chi-ho and renowned goal keeper Mr. Fan Chun-yip. SF&OC Elected Officers, Committee Members of Hong Kong Athletes Career & Education Programme (HKACEP) and supporting corporations of HKACEP also witnessed the Signing Ceremony.

The Hon. Timothy T.T. FOK, GBS, JP, President of SF&OC mentioned that, ¡§It is believed that this Agreement would start the real support from Adecco Hong Kong in creating job opportunities for the Hong Kong retired athletes. Hopefully, this Agreement also will draw attention to local corporations in offering job opportunities to our retired athletes. I would like to cordially invite all the Hong Kong corporations to put the best foot forward to support HKACEP.¡¨ During the social session subsequently held after the Ceremony, athletes grabbed the opportunity to communicate with the representatives of invited corporations to broaden their network and to get to know more about the latest career market.

A Seminar under the topic of ¡§Athlete Career Development¡¨ organized by HKACEP was held under the same roof later on, attracted over 40 athletes, coaches and their representatives from different sports field, was commenced with Mr. Patrick GLENNON¡¦s brief introduction of global development of IOC-ACP, followed with HKACEP movement reported by Mr. Sam WONG, Manager of HKACEP. The Asian Games Medallist rower now working at pet grooming field Ms. YUNG Ka-yan and former Wushu World Champion Mr. CHENG Ka-ho and now an employee of Hopewell Holdings Limited were invited to share their post-athletic career transformation experiences. Meanwhile, representatives of Hopewell Holdings Limited and Parks Supplies Company Limited explained their enthusiastic of supporting HKACEP and eagerness in hiring athletes as their employees.

Mr. Victor HUI, SBS, JP, Committee Chairman of HKACEP mentioned in the Seminar that, ¡§While vetting each case during the past 20 months at the Committee Meetings with my colleague Committee Members, I am deeply aware of the difficulties the athletes faced during their transformation after their athletic career. According to the vetting guidelines, the Committee has been trying her best to assist and guide athletes through their transformations by supporting their education and career desires, in order to meet the ultimate goal of the programme: Teaching athletes how to knit a net instead of providing them the fish.¡¨
