Upon receiving the public announcement of the Hong Kong Government dated 25 June 2010 on supporting the Federation to bid for the hosting right of the Asian Games in the capacity of Hong Kong National Olympic Committee (NOC), we would proceed to tender our letter of intent to the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) by 30 June 2010.

The Federation has received encouraging support from the local sports sector for Hong Kong to make a bid for hosting the 2019/2023 Asian Games in the feedback of 40 National Sports Associations (NSAs) on the first questionnaire survey collated in late December 2009. It is noted that at the Legislative Council meeting in early January 2010, the motion of “Promoting the sports development in Hong Kong” was also supported by the Members.
On 8 March 2010, the Federation took the initiative to request OCA to extend the deadline of submitting the letter of intent which was honoured by OCA for it to be postponed to 30 June 2010. On 12 May 2010, a second questionnaire survey on various aspects of hosting the Asian Games in Hong Kong was conducted. Having collated the comments of 46 NSAs in late May 2010 on the provision of venue facility and the related problems of venue management, the Federation summed up their supporting views for presentation to the Government on 15 June 2010.
In order to win the hosting right of the Asian Games, on top of the concerted effort of the local sports sector, the full support of the Government and the community are crucial factors. In the bidding processing, the Federation would fully collaborate with the Government in planning the preparatory work, especially in fulfilling the concern and requests of OCA, the public and the Legislative Council of Hong Kong. The Federation trusts that the Hong Kong Government has the commitment, capability and resources to provide the support measures for the Hong Kong NOC to bid for hosting the Asian Games.
Hong Kong has just proven its effective management style in the recent hosting of the 5th East Asian Games. By achieving cost-effectiveness through various means of utilizing the existing resources, we have attained the “Hong Kong Mode” which yielded magnificent results beyond expectation. As such, Hong Kong will continue to exemplify its guaranteed performance with low investment.
In accordance with past international experience, the organization of a multi-sports Games has not only enhanced the sports culture and sports performance of the host city, but also fostered the solidarity and harmony of the community, resulting in the facelift of the host city. With the concerted effort of the local sports sector, the general public and the Hong Kong Government, we managed to host the largest East Asian Games last year. The Hong Kong NOC is confident to win the bid for hosting the future Asian Games!
