"The Inside Out of Developing Female Athletes"
Women and Sport Commission of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China is committed to arousing the public awareness to the importance of sports to the mental and physical health of the females. The commission also encourages females to participate in sports on different levels and promotes all kinds of activities related to women sports in Hong Kong. The members of the commission includes: Mrs. Vivien Fung (Chairman), Ms. Amy Chan, Ms. Ho Kim Fai, Ms. Hon Sze Sze, Mr. Victor Hui, Ms. Lee Lai Shan, Dr. Leung Mee Lee, Ms. Malina Ngai and Mr. Pang Chung.

Women and Sport Commission will hold a conference on the topic of "The Inside Out of Developing Female Athletes in NAB 209, Lam Woo International Conference Centre, Hong Kong Baptist University (Shaw Campus) Renfrew Road, Kowloon Tong on 9 March 2002 (Saturday). Speakers present in the conference include Head Coach of the Hong Kong Rowing Team, Mr. Chris Perry; experienced gynecologist, Dr. Liang Shuk Tak; and Dr. Trisha Leahy from the Psychology Department of the Chinese University.
Mr. Chris Perry, Head Coach of Hong Kong Rowing Team will share with participants:
- from a coach's perspective his experience of coaching elite athletes in the UK and in Hong Kong
- talent identification program for potential athletes
- strategies for developing female athletes
Dr. Liang Shuk Tak, experienced gynecologist, will deliver a speech on the following topics:
- the effect of strenuous exercise on the female reproductive system
- osteoporosis
- dietary control
Dr. Trisha Leahy from the Psychology Department of Chinese University will speak on the follow areas regarding the psychological characteristics of female athletes:
- concern on body image
- individual differences among female athletes can be substantial
- common factors for female athletes to drop out from sports
Other invited guests include Mr. Yap Kai Tak, Coach of the Hong Kong Athletic Team, Mr. Chan Yiu Hoi, Head Coach of the Hong Kong Swimming Team, and Miss Tsai Hiu Wai, a renowned female swimmer of Hong Kong. The invited guests, together with the three main speakers, will participate in group discussion on the various considerations for developing female athletes.
