Olympic Art & Sport Contest 2004 – Luncheon

The Hon. Timothy T. T. Fok, President of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China had specially arranged a luncheon in Hong Kong Club Windsor Room on 28 May 2004 at 13:00 for the members of the Organizing Committee and the Judging Panels of the “Olympic Art & Sport Contest 2004” (Hong Kong Phase). Guests also being invited included: Ms. Wong Sean Yee, Anissa, Director of Leisure and Cultural Services; Mr. Alan Siu, Deputy Director of Leisure and Cultural Services; Mr. Darwin Chen, Chairman of Hong Kong Arts Development Council; Mr. Wai Kee Shun, a senior sports media worker.


 The Hon. Timothy T. T. Fok, in his speech during the luncheon, stated that apart from the promotion of sport in Hong Kong, the Federation had also contributed in the development of art. “Olympic Art & Sport Contest 2004” was an art competition organized by the Federation and the International Olympic Committee in celebration of the Athens Olympics 2004. The competition was divided into two phases: - Hong Kong Phase and International Phase. The Hong Kong Phase was organized by the Federation and co-organized by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. A total of 17 art pieces, including 9 sculptures and 8 paintings had been submitted to the Competition. One painting from Mr. Chu Hing Wah and one sculpture from Ms. Joyce S. W. Hsu were selected and sent to the Olympic Museum at Lausanne for international competition. The result for the international phase was released on 6 May 2004, in which artists from People’s Republic of China and United State of America had won the 1st prize in painting and sculpture category respectively.

 The Hon. Timothy T. T. Fok took this opportunity in the luncheon to present the 2004 IOC Trophy “Sport and Media” to Mr. Wai Kee Shun for his contribution to local sport and media. Different themes were attached to the IOC Trophy each year aiming to honour sports personnels with great contribution to Olympic Movement. It is a great honour given to the awardees through the nomination of NOCs.
