Outreach Seminar on “Olympism” in Secondary Schools 2004
28 - 30 June 2004 & 5 - 9 July 2004

The Outreach Seminar on “Olympism” in Secondary Schools will be staged from 28 to 30 June and 5 to 9 July 2004.  With the Olympic Games to be staged in August at Athens, it is most timely to organize this Seminar for the promotion of “Olympism” among secondary schools students, to evoke our youngsters’ enthusiasm towards Olympic Games, and to nurture a stronger sports culture among the youths in Hong Kong.

This Seminar is organized by the Hong Kong Olympic Academy (HKOA) under the auspices of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC).  The HKOA specially invites seven experts from the sports industry and ex-athletes of the Hong Kong Delegation to the Olympic Games to be the guest lecturers of the occasion.  They will deliver an hour presentation to those enrolled schools’ students on the topics of Olympic history, Olympic movement and its development and also briefly introduce the upcoming Athens Olympic Games and the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.  After the presentation, an interactive question-and-answer section will be followed, aiming at stimulating and enhancing the students’ level of involvement of the Seminar.

The invited lecturers are: -

  1. Mr. Kenny CHOW, Council Chairman, Hong Kong Post-Secondary Colleges Athletic Association;

  2. Mr. Patrick CHAN, Member, Hong Kong Post-Secondary Colleges Athletic Association;

  3. Ms. HON Sze Sze, Hon. Secretary, Women & Sport Committee, SF&OC;

  4.  Ms. LAU Cheung Cheung, International Olympic Academy participant in 2002;

  5.  Ms. Fenella NG, ex-athlete of the Hong Kong Delegation to the Olympic Games (1994, 1996 swimmer, 2000 rower);

  6. Mr. Michael TSE, ex-athlete of the Hong Kong Delegation to the Olympic Games (1996 rower); and

  7.  Ms. Alison WONG, Executive Director, Hong Kong Sports Association for the Physically Disabled.

This Seminar has attracted an overwhelming response from nearly 80 secondary schools.  Due to limited time and resources, only 31 schools are selected by ballot and over 13,000 students will be benefited from this Seminar.

Should any media be interested to send representatives to cover the Seminar, please do not hesitate to contact the Secretariat at: 2891-3079.
