Olympic Solidarity programmes for athletes preparing for the Athens Games

The Olympic scholarships for Athens 2004 programme has been developed by Olympic Solidarity with the principle objective of assistance athletes nominated by their respective National Olympic Committees (NOC) in their preparation and qualification for the Athens Olympic Games in 2004. All 199 NOCs recognized by the International Olympic Committee are eligible to apply the scholarship.

Eight Hong Kong athletes in different Olympic sports have been nominated by their respective NSAs to apply for this scholarship through the Federation. They are: Mr. Cheung Yuk from Hong Kong Table Tennis Association, Mr. Ho Chi Ho from Windsurfing Association of Hong Kong, Mr. Ho Siu Lun from Hong Kong Cycling Association, Mr. Ng Wei from Hong Kong Badminton Association, Mr. Lee Chi Wo from Hong Kong Triathlon Association, Mr. Law Hiu Fung from Hong Kong Rowing Association, Ms. Chan Wing Suet from Hong Kong Amateur Swimming Association, Mr. Chiang Wai Hung from Hong Kong Amateur Athletics Association.

The budget allocated for this programme is US$13,700,000. Successful candidates would be provided with access to appropriate training facilities, a coach specialized in the relevant sporting discipline, regular medical and scientific assistance and control, accident and illness insurance, board and lodging costs and adequate pocket money. The results of the scholarship will be announced in August 2002.
