The Games of the XXVIII Olympiad Commence Soon - Flag Presentation Ceremony for the Hong Kong, China Delegation Held Today

The Games of the XXVIII Olympiad will be held from 13 to 29 August 2004 at Athens, Greek with a total of 28 sports. Hong Kong will participate in 10 sports namely: athletics, aquatics, badminton, cycling, fencing, rowing, shooting, table tennis, triathlon and sailing (windsurfing).

Under the leadership of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, there are a total of 33 athletes qualified for the Athens 2004 Olympic Games as compared with 31 athletes in the last Olympic Games in Sydney. During the Flag Presentation Ceremony, the Hon. Timothy FOK, President of the Federation proudly stated that “Hong Kong is not behind our counterparts despite the keen competition of the international sports scene. This year, we are qualified in ten sports events, when four athletes qualified in the sports of Fencing and Triathlon, more than the eights sports we did in Sydney.”
The Federation is grateful for the staunch support of the HKSAR Government which is demonstrated by the Chief Executive, the Hon. TUNG Chee Hwa’s presence and presentation of the SAR flag to the Chef de Mission, Mr. Victor HUI, SBS, JP, at the Government House. Other distinguished guests, included Dr. Patrick HO, JP, Secretary for Home Affairs, Home Affairs Bureau; Mr. LEE Siu Kwong, IDSM, JP, Secretary for Security, Security Bureau and Mr. Panayotis ECONOMOU, the Consul General of Greek also made their presence to grace this occasion.
