Hong Kong SAR to send the largest ever delegation to the 14th Busan Asian Games

Hong Kong will send the largest ever contingent of over 300 members to the 14th Busan Asian Games that will be held from 29 September to 14 October 2002 in Busan, a maritime city in southeastern tip of the Korean peninsular.

There are a total of 38 sports in the Busan Asian Games. Hong Kong will participate in 28 of them, namely athletics, swimming, archery, badminton, basketball, billiards, bodybuilding, bowling, canoeing, cycling, equestrian, fencing, football, golf, gymnastics, hockey, judo, karatedo, rowing, rugby, sailing, shooting, squash, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, beach volleyball and wushu.

Over 220 athletes and 100 officials will take part, including administration, medical, technical, coaching personnels - it is the SAR's largest ever delegation to the Asian Games. In the 1998 Bangkok Asian Games, 289 athletes and officials were involved.

The Hong Kong Delegation will be led by Chief de Mission Mr. Victor Hui Chun Fui. Other members of the Headquarters include Deputy Chief de Missions Mr. Ronnie Wong, Mrs. Vivien Fung and Mr. Con Conway.

As always, the SAR Government shows its staunch support to the Hong Kong sports by the Chief Executive the Hon. Tung Chee Hwa's presence and presentation of the SAR flag to the Chief de Mission Mr. Hui at the Government House. Other officiating guests are the Hon. Timothy Fok, President of Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China and Secretary for Home Affairs, Dr. Patrick Ho. Other distinguished guests, included Ms. Shelly Lee, Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs, Home Affairs Bureau and Mr. Paul Leung, Director of Leisure and Cultural Services Department.

The Delegation's morale has been further boosted by the generous support from various commerical sponsors, that include Korean Air, Diadora, Eiffel Pierre Tailor Limited and Samsung Electronics Limited, in cash and in kind.
