20,000 copies of “Secondary School Olympic Reader” presented to Hong Kong students from BOCOG

The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) had kindly given 20,000 copies of “Secondary School Olympic Reader” to Hong Kong students. The Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) is proud to be the organizer of this Book Presentation Ceremony.

The Ceremony was successfully held at 4:00p.m., on 3 September 2004, at Pui Ching Middle School. We were honoured to have Mr. LIU Jingmin, Deputy Mayor of Beijing, Executive Vice-President of BOCOG, and The Hon. Timothy T.T. FOK, GSB, JP, to officiate the Ceremony.

The “Secondary School Olympic Reader” was edited by the BOCOG and published by Beijing Publishing House. The book had comprehensively introduced the Olympic history, Olympic spirits, and the organization of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. With its easy and simple presentation and interesting cartoon illustrations, the book was a wonderful means to convey Olympic knowledge as well as the promotion of Olympic Movement to every corner of China, hence the whole nation could share the joy of the Beijing’s hosting of the Olympic Games in 2008.

As to allow people of Hong Kong to enjoy the book, BOCOG was very kind to publish an edition in Tradition Chinese for the HKSAR, in order to build up a sense of belongs and cohesion among Hong Kong people towards Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. With the assistance from the Hong Kong Schools Sports Federation, SF&OC would distribute the 20,000 books to secondary and primary students and all interested parties, as to nurture the Olympic spirits among our youngsters. As this book is not for sale, which could be valuable for collection.

At the same occasion, the SF&OC had invited the Olympics heroes of Hong Kong, Table Tennis Silver Medallists, KO Lai-chak and LI Ching to share their glorious moment in the Athens Olympic Games and their experience in overcoming the untold difficulties in their journey of success. Their determination to fight for success exactly perform the Hong Kong Spirit of “Never Give Up”.
