An annual get-to-gether party of year 2004 was held on 22 December in Sports House and Hong Kong Stadium Restaurant to celebrate three special occasions.
|
First of all, apart from saying thanks to all parties concerned for their year round contribution to sports development and promotion of Hong Kong, it was a celebration of the Federation’s taking-over of the Sports House on 1 December 2004, symbolizing the unity of the Hong Kong sports community when the Federation and its members Associations are now under one roof. The Sports House, the “hub” of Hong Kong sports, will soon be renamed as “Olympic House” to live up to its functions.
Secondly, we took this opportunity to pay tribute to our local sports heros, Messrs KO Lai Chak and LI Ching, silver medallists of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, who brought Hong Kong proud and glory. The Medallist Lapel Pin for the Games of the XXVIII Olympiad is a sign of glory specially produced by the International Olympic Committee to all medallists. In front of all dignities and members of the sports family, Messrs KO and LI received the pins from the Hon. Timothy T. T. FOK, IOC Member and President of the SF&OC.
Also, it was the Flag Presentation Ceremony of the Hong Kong Delegation to the Australian Youth Olympic Festival, Sydney, an event patronized by the IOC. As one of the many legacies of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) conducts the Australian Youth Olympic Festival (AYOF), a bi-ennial multi-sports event for young Olympic aspirants generally between the ages of 14-19 years. AYOF will be held from 19 to 23 January 2005 and involve 14 sports namely Archery, Athletics, Basketball, Canoe, Cycling, Diving, Equestrian, Gymnastics, Judo, Rowing, Shooting, Swimming, Volleyball and Weightlifting. It seeks to provide elite youth athletes with an Olympic-type experience utilizing world class sports facilities in both a highly competitive and educational environment. Hong Kong is much honored to be invited to take part in the event of Swimming alone. Proud to acknowledge the great support of the Hong Kong Amateur Swimming Association (HKASA) for organizing a 39-member delegation to the AYOF, the Federation specially took this occasion to present HKASA the Hong Kong flag, signifying the former’s representation as the Hong Kong Delegation in the world Olympic event.
A total of 200 participants took part in the party, including HKSAR government officials, elected officers and staff members of our member Associations, volunteers of the Federation and members of the press.
