Hong Kong Delegation departs for the Australian Youth Olympic Festival 2005 today

17.01.2005
The Hong Kong Delegation departed for Sydney, Australia for the Australian Youth Olympic Festival 2005 on 17 January 2005.

As one of the many legacies of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) conducts the Australian Youth Olympic Festival (AYOF), a bi-ennial multi-sports event for young Olympic aspirants generally between the ages of 14-19 years. AYOF will be held from 19 to 23 January 2005 and involve 14 sports namely Archery, Athletics, Basketball, Canoe, Cycling, Diving, Equestrian, Gymnastics, Judo, Rowing, Shooting, Swimming, Volleyball and Weightlifting. It seeks to provide elite youth athletes with an Olympic-type experience utilizing world class sports facilities in both a highly competitive and educational environment.

Hong Kong is much honored to be invited to take part in the event of Swimming alone. We are proud to acknowledge the great support of the Hong Kong Amateur Swimming Association (HKASA) for organizing a 39-member delegation, including 16 boys’ and 16 girls’ simmers, in which the Athens Olympic Games representatives as SZE Hang Yu, WILSON Hannah and YIP Tsz Wa were included. It is expected that new records will be set.
