Aomori Winter Asian Games

The Hon. Timothy T. T. FOK visited Aomori in his dual capacities as Vice President and Acting President of Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) on behalf of Prince Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah of Kuwait. In his official capacity as the minister of oil of Kuwait, Prince Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah is unable to attend the event in view of the tense situation in West Asia.

Accompanied by Mr. Morio Kimura, President of the Aomori Winter Asian Games Organizing Committee and Mr. Tsunekazu Takeda, President of Japan Olympic Committee, President Fok officiated the Opening Ceremony of the 5th Aomori Winter Asian Games on 1 February 2003 with the participation of 29 Asian countries and 1042 athletes and officials at the Aoi-mori Arena.
The Crown Prince Naruhito was also present at the Opening Ceremony. He subsequently invited Mr. Fok to spend the whole afternoon of 7 February 2003 with the royal family in Aomori City.
At tomorrow's Closing Ceremony, Mr. Fok will receive the OCA flag from Mr. Morio Kimura and hand it over to the President of the Organizing Committee of the next Winter Asian Games in Changchun.
There are a total of 6 sports and 51 events in the 5th Aomori Winter Asian Games.
