20.05.2005
Subsequent to the successful organization of the 1st edition of Olympic Sport and Literature Competition four years ago, the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) proudly presents the 2nd edition of the Competition with the Education and Manpower Bureau, Leisure & Cultural Services Department and many other supporting organizations. The three categories of the Hong Kong Phase Competition are:

(2) Age 12 to 18 (Chinese language)
(3) Age 12 to 18 (English language)

The themes of the competition include “Excelling oneself”; “Fairplay”; “Joy in effort”; “Respect for others” and “Balance between body and mind”. Winners of the competitions will be awarded with cash award, IOC Diploma and/or Trophy.

“Sport brings art to light and enables it to make itself known. It engenders beauty, since it displays the athlete, who is a living sculpture. Because of the monuments which it erects and the spectacles and festivals which it organizes, sport enables art to make itself known.”. These words of de Coubertin underline the cultural and aesthetic aspects of Olympism. Early celebrations of the Olympic Games included competitions for authors, painters and sculptors. These were discontinued after 1984, but artistic exhibitions accompany many Olympic events. Nowadays, cultural programs supported by the IOC, Organizing Committee and NOCs include art, music, literature and architecture. It is with this concept the International Olympic Committee (IOC) creates the Literature Competition to strengthen the link between literature and the celebration of the Olympic Games.

The Olympic Sport and Literature Competition 2005 – Hong Kong Phase is now open for submission until 29 July 2005. Entry forms are now available at:-
