Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards 2005 - An Opportunity to show your SUPPORT & RECOGNITION to our Hong Kong Athletes

The Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) organized an Announcement Press Conference today to announce the details of the prestigious annual sports event, Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards 2005.

Following the 10th National Games and Macao 4th East Asian Games, Hong Kong athletes also participated in the 1st Bangkok Asian Indoor Games that was just concluded on 19 November 2005. Definitely, 2005 has been an excellent year for Hong Kong Sports Family. The Hon. Timothy T. T. FOK, GBS, JP, President of the Federation, expressed that Hong Kong athletes' excellent performances in multi-sports Games were well deserved for commendation. He also highlighted the great significance of this Award, which is to recognize Hong Kong athletes' efforts and successes. Meanwhile, he hoped that the general public could show their support to Hong Kong athletes through participating in these meaningful Awards.
The press conference was officiated by The Hon. Timothy T. T. FOK, GBS, JP, President of the Federation; Mr. Michael HUDDART, Senior Vice President & General Manager (Hong Kong), Manulife (International) Limited, Mr. KIM Byung-wook, Managing Director, Samsumg Electronics H. K. Co. Ltd. and Mrs. Vivien FUNG, JP. Chairman of the 2005 Hong Kong sports Stars Awards Organizing Committee. Past winners of 2004 Awards included Messrs KO Lai Chak, LI Ching, and CHAN Yun Hang from the Hong Kong Table Tennis Association; Mr. WU Siu Hong from Hong Kong Tenpin Bowling Congress; Ms. AU Wing Chi from Hong Kong Schools Sports Federation (Squash); Ms. LAI Wai Ling (Table tennis) and Ms. LEUNG Shu Hang (Swimming); Messrs CHEUNG Chi Wai (Athletics) and PO Tik San (Swimming) from the Hong Kong Sports Association for the Mentally Handicapped and Ms. MAK So Ning from the Hong Kong Triathlon Association were also invited to attend the press conference to share their sport experience with the attendees in the event.

Sponsorship
This year's Awards continue to receive support from the LCSD and the commercial sectors of the community. The Federation would like to express their gratitude to all parties involved, especially Manulife (International) Limited, the Gold Sponsor of the event for the first time. Samsung Electronics H. K. Co., Ltd. again showed their commitment as the Silver Sponsor again in this year. In addition, The Kowloon Motor Bus Co. (1933) Ltd., Television Broadcasts Limited and Oriental Press Group Limited are the Official Sponsors of the Awards. As in pervious years, Cathay Pacific Airways Limited again sponsors six round trip economy class tickets from Hong Kong to any Asian destinations for the winners of Hong Kong Junior Sports Stars Awards.
Judging Panel
The Judging Panel is composed of ten sports celebrities including representatives from the Federation, LCSD, Sports Commission, Hong Kong Sports Institute Limited and National Sports Associations etc.
Awards Categories
Prize money amounting HK$456,000 will be awarded to all winners in the six categories as follows:
1. Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards (Eight winners)
2. Hong Kong Junior Sports Stars Awards (Six winners)
3. Hong Kong Sports Stars Award for Team Only Sport (One Team)
4. Hong Kong Sports Stars Award for Team Event (One Team)
5. Hong Kong Potential Sports Stars Awards (Six winners)
6. Hong Kong Sportsmanship Sports Star Award (One Winner)
Nomination
Commencing today, member Associations of the Federation are invited to submit their nominations. The closing date for nominations is 6 December 2005. All rules and regulations of the Awards and the nomination forms can be downloaded from the Federation's official website at www.hkolympic.org.
Online Public Voting
To encourage public’s involvement in this prestigious event, there are altogether four categories of the Awards open for public voting. The four categories are “Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards”, “Hong Kong Junior Sports Stars Awards”, and “Hong Kong Sports Stars Award for Team Only Sport and Hong Kong Sports Stars Award for Team Event”. Members of the public could vote for their favourite athletes and team on the Federation’s official website from 31 December 2005 to 31 January 2006. Details of Online Public Voting will be announced on the Public Voting Announcement Press Conference on 30 December 2005.
Promotion
To raise public’s awareness of this Awards, the Federation is glad to solicit the generous support from the Television Broadcasts Limited by sponsoring airtimes in the “Sports World” programme by introducing the nominees of each category to members of the public. In addition, the Oriental Press Group Limited would also publicize the relevant information of the Awards on the Oriental Daily News and The Sun. Besides, the Federation will produce a promotional video to be advertised on LED screens located at prosperous streets in Hong Kong during the public voting period.
Announcement of the Results
The results of the Awards 2005 will be announced in the Awards Presentation Ceremony to be held in conjunction with the annual Spring Dinner of the Federation on 28 February 2006 at the Grand Hall of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
