The Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) held a Press Conference today to announce this year's nominees list and details of the Public Voting. This prestigious event brought together nearly 80 nominees from the NSAs present here today.
The Federation received a total of 146 nominations from 29 member Associations vying for the much coveted titles. The Hon. Timothy T. T. FOK, GBS, JP, President of the Federation, was very pleased to continue receiving the unfailing support from member Associations who put up their nominations for the Awards. President FOK also expressed that these nominations reflected the recognition of Hong Kong athletes' efforts and their outstanding sports achievements. Mrs. Vivien FUNG, JP, Chairman of the Awards 2005 Organizing Committee also appealed to members of the public to actively take part in the Online Public Voting to show their support to the Awards.
Same as last year, FOUR categories of the Awards are open for online public voting. From 31 December 2005 onwards, the nominees' profiles, nominees' list and details of the Online Public Voting will be posted on the Federation's official website at www.hkolympic.org. Members of the public can vote for their favourite athletes and teams. Citizens who participated in the public voting will have a chance to win HK$1,000 Cash Coupon sponsored by the adidas Hong Kong Limited.
The closing date of public voting will be on Tuesday, 31 January 2006. This year's winners will be announced - live on stage – at the Awards Presentation Ceremony on 28 February 2006 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Prize money amounting to HK$456,000 will be awarded to the winners on that night.
To further public's awareness of and encourage the community to involve in this meaningful Awards, the Federation once again engaged the Oriental Press Group Limited to launch the "Guess the Winners Contest" for the category "Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards" in mid of February 2006. This year's Contest continues to receive support from Samsung Electronics H. K. Co., Ltd. by sponsoring electronic appliances which valued about HK$50,000. Details of the Contest will be published on both the Oriental Daily News and The Sun later.
The promotional posters and public voting leaflets will be distributed to 18 Districts Offices of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department; all National Sports Associations; tertiary institutes and all primary and secondary schools.
