In order to promote one of the objectives of the Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards in providing role models and inspiration for the young people in Hong Kong, the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China specially organized a visit of the elderly in Po Leung Kuk Headquarters on 23 January 2006 to show our athletes’ concerns and commitment to the community and to enjoy an afternoon of fun and loving care before the Chinese Lunar New Year with the elderly.

Mr. Ronnie WONG, JP, Hon. Deputy Secretary General of the Federation, a member of the Judging Panel of the Awards, expressed that the Federation always encourages Hong Kong athletes to actively participate in community services. He hoped that this meaningful visit could serve to promote to the public at large, especially the youngsters, that we should pay more attention, love and concern to the elderly.
This afternoon, more than 30 athletes besides playing with the 40 elderly in collective games, also joined them in aerobic dance aiming at encouraging them to adopt a healthy lifestyle through interactive games. In addition, our athletes also acted as judges and selected four “Most Active Elderly”, who were awarded with a souvenir T-shirt. The visit ended with the nominees presenting a woolly hat and a pair of socks to each of the elderly amidst an atmosphere of joy and happiness.
The event would not have been so successful without the co-operation from Po Leung Kuk and the generous support from adidas Hong Kong Limited by sponsoring gifts to elderly.
