Launching Ceremony of the Book "The Quest for Gold: Fifty Years of Amateur Sports in Hong Kong, 1947-1997"

The launching of "The Quest for Gold" - the first comprehensive record of amateur sports in Hong Kong which traces the practice of sport in Hong Kong dating back more than half a century, lightened the Olympic House this evening with the ceremony officiated by: The Hon. A. de O. SALES, GBM, JP, Hon. Life President of SF&OC; The Hon. Timothy T. T. FOK, GBS, JP, President of SF&OC; Dr. Julian CHANG, MH, Hon. Medical Advisor of SF&OC and Dr. S. F. LAM, OBE, Former Hon. Medical Advisor of SF&OC.

More than 80 guests including contributors to the Book, well-known athletes and sports leaders attended the Ceremony in celebration of the launch of the Book. Dr. Julian CHANG and Dr. S. F. LAM, editors, thanked their fellow colleagues and sponsors of the "Hong Kong Historical Book Trust" for their support in making this publication a great success. The Quest for Gold is a collection of articles on various aspects on the development of sports in Hong Kong during the 50-year history of the Amateur Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong. Interspersed through are historical photographs, rare official documents, and personal anecdotes.
"The story of sports development in Hong Kong is worth telling…" (extract from the Foreword by The Hon. A. de O. SALES). Mr. SALES, President of the Federation for 30 years, started telling the 50-year's history of the Hong Kong sports from 1949/50 when sports was originally a pastime among the early foreign residents. The development of sports of Hong Kong then went on with many men and women joined in and worked with dedication over the years for the common good, each contributing to the new chapters of Hong Kong sports.
