The 22nd East Asian Games Association Council Meeting, Hong Kong, 17 June 2006

We are proud to announce that the 22nd East Asian Games Association (EAGA) Council Meeting was held in The Park Lane Hong Kong, Causeway Bay on 17 June 2006. This is the first EAGA Council Meeting held in Hong Kong after the EAGA Secretariat was formally handed over to Hong Kong in February 2006. The Meeting was attended by over 30 delegates from EAGA Member National Olympic Committees (NOCs) including China, DPR Korea, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Macau, Mongolia, Chinese Taipei; and Associate Member NOC of Guam. The 5th East Asian Games Planning Committee also made a progress report of 5th East Asian Games and submitted a proposed sports programme of 5th EAG in the meeting.

The 22nd East Asian Games Association (EAGA) Council Meeting was kicked off during the Opening Ceremony on 17 June 2006, at 9:30am in the Churchill Room, 26/F, The Park Lane Hong Kong. The Open Ceremony was officiated by The Hon. Timothy T.T. FOK, GBS, JP, President of EAGA, and Ms. Anissa WONG, JP, Director of Leisure and Cultural Services. Ms. Anissa WONG is also in her capacity of the 5th East Asian Games Planning Committee Vice Chairman to attend the meeting.

The closed door Meeting started right after the Opening Ceremony, in which the following issues were discussed:-
i) Composition of EAGA Council (please refer to Appendix I);
ii) Composition of EAGA Rules and Technical Committee and Medical Committee, and appointment of Committees Chairmen (please refer to Appendix II);
iii) Progress Report of 5th East Asian Games by 5th East Asian Games Planning Committee;
iv) Proposed sports programme of 5th East Asian Games submitted by 5th East Asian Games Planning Committee. After preliminary discussion, EAGA Council decided to refer the proposal to EAGA Rules and Technical Committee for thorough study and discussion before making a decision.
v) Financial and Activity Report on the 4 th East Asian Games by Macao East Asian Games Organizing Committee.
The meeting ended at 11:00am.

In the afternoon, the delegates attend the Tseung Kwan O Sports Ground Ground Breaking Ceremony in the Tseung Kwan O Sports Ground at 3:30pm.

In the evening, the delegates attend the EAG Slogan Competition Prize Presentation Ceremony in the Marina Rooms, 2/F, The Excelsior at 6:30pm, and the Welcome Dinner in the same place at 7:30pm. Press releases for these two functions is separately issued by the LCSD.
