The Hong Kong Volleyball Teams depart for the 40th International Children's Games today

The Hong Kong Delegation to the 40th International Children's Games had departed for Bangkok, Thailand today (23 August 2006) to vie for medals in the boys' and girls' volleyball event.

A delegation of 24 young athletes aged between 12 and 15 and five officials was selected to represent Hong Kong to participate in the said Games when it was the first time that Hong Kong was invited to be one of the participating cities since the inaugural Games held in Slovenia in 1968. The aim of the Games is to promote friendship among young people and create better understanding between nations in the future. This year, the Games will be held from 23 to 29 August 2006 in Bangkok, Thailand and involve ten sports namely basketball, dancesport, futsal, gymnastics, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, track and field and volleyball. A total of 82 cities/ regions will participate in the Games, including Beijing, Jakarta, Macau, San Francisco, Seoul and Taipei etc. Seven boys' and 18 girls' teams will compete in the volleyball event.
The Federation wishes the Hong Kong Delegation all the best in their participation in the 40th International Children's Games.
