The 2006 East Asian Games Association Rules & Technical Committee Meeting and Medical Committee Meeting, Hong Kong, 23 September 2006

We are proud to announce that the 2006 East Asian Games Association (EAGA) Committee Meetings concluded successfully in The Park Lane Hong Kong, Causeway Bay on 23 September 2006. Meeting of the two EAGA standing Committees, namely the Rules & Technical Committee and the Medical Committee, were held with over 20 delegates from EAGA Member National Olympic Committees (NOCs) including China, DPR Korea, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Macau, Mongolia, Chinese Taipei; and Associate Member NOC of Guam attended.

The 2006 EAGA Committee Meetings were kicked off during the Opening Ceremony held on 23 September 2006, at 9:30am in the Pine Room, 28/F, The Park Lane Hong Kong. The Open Ceremony was officiated by The Hon. Timothy T.T. FOK, GBS, JP, President of EAGA and Vice President of OCA, and Mr. Thomas CHOW, JP, Director of Leisure and Cultural Services with the presence of the Elected Officers from the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China.

The closed door Meetings started right after the Opening Ceremony. The Medical Committee Meeting was firstly held at 10:00a.m. in which various issues regarding Doping Control arrangement and medical services of 2009 East Asian Games were discussed. The meeting ended at 11:00am.

After that, the Rules & Technical Committee Meeting commenced at 11:15a.m., the proposed sports programme of 2009 East Asian Games and other related issues were discussed. The meeting ended at 12:15 noon.

The Hon. Timothy T.T. FOK, GBS, JP met the press after the Meetings. He said “According to the decision reached in the Rules & Technical Committee Meeting on the proposal by the East Asian Games Planning Committee, there will be 21 competition sports items and 2 exhibition sports item which provide the largest number of sports items to be ever held in one single East Asian Games.” He added “We consider that there is a well mix of sports items, particularly of which 16 are Olympic Sports for the athletes of different member places to compete, to draw spectators locally and from other places. We believe this list of sports event is the appropriate one for the 2009 East Asian Games to be organized as a successful and appealing event.”
