Bank of China (Hong Kong) 51st Festival of Sport Opening Programme Don’t miss this great opportunity to experience “Sport for All”.

The Bank of China (Hong Kong) 51st Festival of Sport (FOS) is an annual “Sport for All” event organised by the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (the Federation) and subvented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD). This year, it is honoured to have the continuous support of Bank of China (Hong Kong) as the event’s Title Sponsor.

To uphold the spirit of “Sport for All”, this year’s FOS will organise a wide variety of sport activities in 18 districts and encourage the public to enjoy various sports and cultivate a passion for and interest in sport. To celebrate the 51st anniversary of the FOS, the Federation held a glamorous two-day Opening Programme that combined sports and culture at the Times Square on 15-16 March 2008. The two-day programmes included public participation in various sports activities, sports demonstration, a grand Opening Ceremony and cultural performances. The 51st FOS Ambassadors, Ms YUNG Ka Yan and Mr Sam WONG Tak Sum were present to participate in sports demonstration and promote sports to the community.

Guests officiating at the opening ceremony on 16 March 2008 were The Hon. Timothy T T FOK, GBS, JP, President of the Federation; Mrs Carrie YAU, JP, Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs; Mr Raymond LEE Wing Hung, Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer, Bank of China (Hong Kong); Mr Thomas CHOW, JP, Director of LCSD; Mr PANG Chung, BBS, Hon. Secretary General of the Federation; and Mr Kenny CHOW, Chairman of the Organising Committee for the Bank of China (Hong Kong) 51st FOS.

Inaugurating the FOS was a marching-in ceremony of 74 National Sports Associations which created the atmosphere of multi-sports games. The opening ceremony was followed by live performances of dragon & lion dance, jazz dance, rope skipping demonstration, foil demonstration, yo-yo performance, cheering performance, Latin and standard dance demonstration and concluded by the performance of Orchid 18.

Following the two-day Opening Programme, around 80 sports competitions, fun days and demonstrations, organised by 64 National Sports Associations, will be held from now on until June. The Bank of China (Hong Kong) 51st FOS programme booklets are now available at the Secretariat of the Federation, Times Square, all LCSD Sports Centres, and 18 LCSD District Offices. The public may visit the Federation’s website at www.hkolympic.org for further information. Don’t miss this great opportunity to experience “Sport for All” as all events are free of admission charge.

Last but not least, the Federation would like to express its thanks and appreciation to various organisations that contributed to the success of the event, which included Bank of China (Hong Kong) being the Title Sponsor, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department in subventing the Festival and the Times Square being the Venue Sponsor for the Opening Programme.
