XLIX Festival of Sport Kick off by a glamorous Opening Ceremony - Ambassadors SOLER & Charles SZETO and other artists appealed to the public to go SPORT!

The XLIX Festival of Sport (FOS), organized by the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) and subvented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), was kicked off by the grand Opening Ceremony on 26 March 2006 (Sunday) at 3:00pm at Wanchai Sports Ground.

This year, the Federation had joined-hand with TVB to launch a grand Opening Ceremony with the elements of sports, arts, and entertainment led by Masters of Ceremony Mr. Wu Lok Yin, Ms. Heidi Chu, Mr. Chung Chi Kwong and Ms. Wendy Hon. TVB covered the event and the highlights of the programme would be broadcasted on Jade Channel at 3:30 p.m., on 2 April 2006 (Sunday). To arouse public’s awareness of the event, pop singing group SOLER and artist Mr. Charles SZETO were appointed as FOS Ambassadors. Julio and Dino of SOLER, Angela Tong and Renee Dai also sang in the Ceremony. To show their support, artists including Mr. Charles SZETO, Mr. Tang Ho Kwong, Mr. Matthew Ko, Mr. Fan Chun Fung, Ms. Li Yanan Leanne, Ms. Winnie Shum, Ms. Cindy Lee and Ms. Angelina Wong competed with elite athletes in the Mini Sports Competition. They also played games with audience which led to the climax of the afternoon.
The Opening started with a Marching-in Ceremony to allow all participants and audience to experience the sacred atmosphere of the Olympic Games. Lion and dragon dance, Karatedo demonstration and drum dance then followed in sequence. To pay tribute to those athletes with outstanding performance in multi-sports games and championships during 2005, the Federation presented the “Incentive Awards” amounting HK$1,070,640 to 26 NSAs (appendix I) at this delightful occasion.
Following the magnificent conclusion of the Opening Ceremony, 76 sports competitions, fun days and demonstrations will be held from now on until June throughout the territories.
