SCAA is a multi-sports non-profit making organization for the promotion of sports and fostering the growth of healthy citizens in Hong Kong. The Association was formerly founded as a football team in 1904 by a group of enthusiastic students. Since 1920, the Association has extended its mission from promoting football to other sports activities.
The Association serves under the direction and decision of the Council and the Executive Committee respectively. There are over 30 functional sub-committees and Sports Sections under the Executive Committee. Regular meetings will be convened for discussion of sectional and daily affairs. Members of the Committees are volunteers, who contribute their time, money and intelligence for the betterment of the Association. Approximate one hundred seventy full time staff is being employed to manage and maintain the daily operations of different sections.
Membership size has grown steadily during the past decades, and has reached the record of 50,000 members this year. The seven classes of the Membership are Permanent Honorary President Member, Permanent Honorary Director Member, Permanent Honorary Council Member, Life Member, Ordinary Member, Youth Member (age below 18) and Visiting Member (non H.K. Resident). Membership fee ranges from HK$50 to HK$20,000.
After decades of development, the Association now operates a Club House on Hong Kong Island and a Tennis Centre at King’s Park Kowloon. It provides a wide range of recreational facilities and training courses to the members. These facilities include a 60 lanes Bowling Centre, Sports Halls, Billiards Centre, Dance Room, Health Centre, Football Pitch, Golf Driving Range, Indoor Shooting Range, Judo Kun, Karate Kun, Swimming Pools, Table Tennis Room, Tennis Centre, Car Park and Dinning facilities etc. The training courses include Arms Handling Safety Course, Artistic Cycling, Badminton, Ballet, Basketball, Billiards, Boxing, Fencing, Football, Golf, Gymnastics, Jazz, Judo, Karate, Life Saving, Line Dancing, Mini-Squash, Para Para, Salsa Dance, Shao-Lin Kung Fu, Social Dance, Squash, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tai Chi, Trampoline, Water Polo and Yoga etc. Besides, over 20 representative teams are organized by relevant sections to participate in the local and overseas tournaments and championships.
Every year, the Association also organizes different tournaments and competitions for the players to test their skills and enrich the invaluable match experience. This August, the “SCAA Open Tennis Championships 2003” will be launched. This championship is qualified as a ranking event of the Hong Kong Tennis Association.
