Common Misunderstandings towards "Sport Climbing"
|
Sport Climbing, although strongly rooted in the traditions of Alpine mountaineering, is a quite different sport. Sport Climbing is one of the most primitive kinds of sports that aims for the balancing of the body, posture and a clear mind; in fact, very much similar to gymnastics I think. Perhaps this kind of sport does sound somewhat stylish, thrilling and even exotic, sport climbing is not, by any means, only limited to the amateurs.
In traditional rock climbing and alpine mountaineering, bolts are sometimes driven into a section of rock face that's difficult or impossible to climb because it's bare of natural hand holds. As more and more surfaces were bolted, it occurred that climbing could become a sport with pre-placed protection, thus climbers do not spend energy carrying or placing complicated protection gear or care about mountain and weather constraints. The sole concern of most sport-climbers is to practice their climbing skills but not to overcome high mountains.
Sport climbing can be carried out on both bolted crags and artificial walls in the middle of town. To promote Sport Climbing in Hong Kong, SCAHK frequently organizes elementary/ intermediate climbing courses, as well as skill improving sessions. It is so easy to experience this amazing sport.
