Orienteering, a sport that well-known as “cunning running”. Participant need to visit the pre-set control points as soon as possible with the aid of map and compass. The sport emphasizes on the participants’ physical fitness, map reading skill, route selection skill, as well as problem solving ability.
There are various choices of courses with different difficulties. Whether you want to challenge yourself or just for leisure, you can find the courses that suitable for you. Thus, orienteering may be claimed as a “physical and mental sport that right for young and old”.
Orienteering was brought by the British Army and Police Force since 1960s as a training exercise. Since latter 1970, some civilians had the opportunity to participate. Orienteering Association of Hong Kong (OAHK) was established in 1981, which aims at promoting orienteering to Hong Kong people, and raise the standard of orienteering here. With the assistance of government and keen orienteers, we held plenty of major international events successfully, and there are more and more people joinging this sport.
Currently more than 15 events are organized every year, include the highest standard events - “Hong Kong Orienteering Champions League”, events that open to public such as “Color-coded Orienteering Championships” and “Festival of Sports Orienteering Competition” and the large fund-raising event “MSF Orienteering Competition”
Moreover, we organize more than 30 training courses with LCSD, schools and outside organizations. Furthermore, the “Trim Orienteering Trails” inside 6 country parks, which is a joint venture of AFCD and us, provide opportunity to public to try and enjoy orienteering throughout the year.
