HONG KONG SHUTTLECOCK ASSOCIATION
Playing shuttlecock has developed from a rural fun to an international competition event. In 1999, the
International Shuttlecock Federation was founded with the assistance of Vietnam Olympic Committee.
In addition to the participation of Asian countries, there are European countries like Holland, Germany, Hungary, France, Finland etc. The Chinese national art can thus be helped forward.

THE FORMATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF HK SHUTTLECOCK ASSOCIATION
In 1980, a group of predeces sors in sports field formed 'HK Amateur Shuttlecock Association'.
Our Association started to organize the annual 'Urban Council Cup Competition' and 'Urban Council Cup Shuttlecock Knock-out Competition' with the former Urban Council. At the same time, we also co-organised the annual 'Chinese Association Cup Shuttlecock Knock-out Competition' with the Chinese Amateur Sports Association. We have continued to promote the shuttlecock sport. The main activities organized include the following:
1983 - Under the sponsorship of HK Tourist Association, we promoted the shuttlecock sport to other Asian country : Japan to hold a roving show which won positive comments.
1986 - We were invited by Guangzhou Shuttlecock Association to join its competition in Guangzhou.
Since then, we cooperated closely with the Kwangtung Province to take part in competitions so as to exchange views and techniques in playing shuttlecock.
1988 - We joined the former HK Sports Association cum Olympic Committee as 'observer member' and
co-organised the 'Chairman Cup' annually. Starting from the recent years, we first organized the
Academic Shuttlecock Invitation Event ( there were over ten participating teams from primary schools and over twenty teams from secondary schools). It proved that the shuttlecock sport has the potential to develop in the academic field.
1994 - We were restructured and renamed as HK Shuttlecock Association.
1995 - We co-organised with the former Urban Council the first International Shuttlecock Invitation
Competition - the teams included China, Germany, Taiwan, Vietnam and HK. At the same time, a
'Shuttlecock Fun Fun Gala' was held in ten different districts in HK and Kowloon as demonstration
performance. We also held roving performance with primary, secondary and post-secondary schools.
1998 - We first co-organized with the Provisional Urban Council 'Elementary Shuttlecock Training Class' and 'Shuttlecock Techniques Improvement Class'.
1999 - We became the founded member of International Shuttlecock Federation and were the only organization with district as a unit.
2001 - We have successfully applied for Quality Education Fund to teach all P.E. teachers shuttlecock.
2002 - In the School Sports Promotion Plan organized by Leisure and Cultural Services Department and Education Department, we demonstrated shuttlecock in primary and secondary schools in HK.
