[Hong Kong, 18 March 2012] The Bank of China (Hong Kong) 55th Festival of Sport (FOS) is an annual “Sport for All” local mega sports event organized by the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (the Federation), subvented by Leisure and Cultural Services Department, and with BOCHK Charitable Foundation being the Title Sponsor. The Opening Programme was successfully concluded today at Hong Kong Coliseum.
Officiating guests of the Opening Ceremony included: The Hon. Timothy T. T. FOK, GBS, JP, President of SF&OC, Mrs. Betty FUNG, JP, Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Mr. LEE Wing Kwai, Chief Operating Officer of BOCHK, Mr. SONG Luzeng, Secretary General of Chinese Olympic Committee, Mr. Karl C. KWOK, MH, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the BOCHK 55th FOS, and Mr. PANG Chung, SBS, Hon. Secretary General of SF&OC. Ambassadors of BOCHK 55th Festival of Sport, Mr. NG Ka Long Angus (Badminton), Ms. IP Wan In (Billiard), Mr. CHENG Chung Hang (Wushu) and Ms. Kelly CHEUNG (2012 Miss Chinese International Pageant) shared their enthusiasm in sports participation and demonstrated warm up exercise during the Ceremony.
“BOCHK Charitable Foundation Badminton Friendly Match” was arranged between Mr. BAO Chunlai and Ms. YANG Wei, China renowned Badminton’s athletes, FOS Ambassadors, Mr. CHIU Tsang Hei and Ms. YoYo MUNG, celebrity, representative of BOCHK Badminton team, and spectators during the ceremony. Other opening programme included various sports demonstrations of Football, Gymnastics, Wushu , Taichi mass participatory performances, Lion Dance, Luminous Dragon Dance, and medley performances lead by singers and athletes. With the sponsorship of BOCHK, SF&OC launched the “Sports Legacy” pilot scheme at the ceremony. Both Mr. CHU Kwok Wah, the Principal of Queen Elizabeth School Old Students’ Association Tong Kwok Wah Secondary School and Mr. YEUNG Yiu Chung, the Principal of Tin Shui Wai Heung To Middle School attended the ceremony. Through this scheme the Federation would arrange local retired athletes to schools for sports coaching, to nurture youngsters in schools and potential athletes for the local sports arena. At the same time, the retired athletes could better equip themselves by utilising their spare time to attain academic qualifications for facilitating their integration to the society. Sports Carnival was also organized at the Piazza of Hong Kong Coliseum, fantastic magic performance by renowned magician Mr. Avon Lee, Indian dance performance, rope skipping performance, as well as free sports trial such as Golf, Lawn Bowls, Physical Fitness Test, Rowing and Sailing.
To further promote “Sport for All”, the Federation and its 65 National Sports Associations will organize more than 80 sports competitions, demonstrations and fun day from March to June this year in various districts of Hong Kong. BOCHK 55th Festival of Sport – “Sport for All! Lead a Healthy and Sustainable Life!” Photo Contest will be held during the Festival of Sport period. Attractive prizes will be given out to the winners.
