Meeting of Co-operation in sports for Hong Kong and Nanjing had concluded successfully at Board Room, Olympic House at Causeway Bay on 21 February 2013. In this afternoon, Mr. Victor C. F. HUI, GSB, JP, Vice-President of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (the Federation), Mr. YOUNG Lap Moon, Raymond, JP, Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs of Home Affairs Bureau and Mr. ZHENG Zeguang, Member of the Standing Committee of the Nanjing Municipal Party Committee, Vice-Mayor of Nanjing City, officiated at the meeting with the attendance of the visiting Delegation and Elected Officers of the Federation.
Hong Kong Delegation achieved 5 Gold, 8 Silver and 5 Bronze medals in the 1st Asian Youth Games (AYG) in Singapore in 2009 and 2 Silver medals in the 1st Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Singapore in 2010. It was really a good opportunity for our young athletes ranging from age 14 to 17 to participate in international multi-sports Games. They could gain more experience and have better preparation for their participation in coming competitions.
The captioned two youth Games would be hosted by Nanjing in August 2013 and August 2014. In addition to having better understanding of these two Games, the most important objective in launching this promotion is to encourage young people in sports and cultural exchanges among the Asian region. They will have more opportunities to learn from each other through the activities held.
This year, the Federation would send a relatively large Hong Kong Delegation to participate in 2013 AYG. Through the participation of AYG, it was a great experience for our young athletes to sharpen their skills and enhance their experience through competitions at the highest level internationally. It is envisaged that our young athletes would live up to our expectation and achieve outstanding results in the Games.
After the meeting, the Organizing Committees of 2013 AYG and 2014 YOG held a separate vibrant event, under the title “Rendezvous in Nanjing” – using 2013 AYG and 2014 YOG in Hong Kong as a platform for sports and culture exchange, the programme lasting for an hour at the Jockey Club Lecture Theatre of Olympic House.
The Federation would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the Home Affairs Bureau for its funding support to Hong Kong Delegation for attending international multi-sports Games in the past years. Lastly, the Federation would like to take this chance to wish Nanjing great success in hosting the 2013 Asian Youth Games and 2014 Youth Olympic Games soon.
