Organized by the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (the Federation), subvented by Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), and with BOCHK Charitable Foundation, being the Title Sponsor, the Bank of China (Hong Kong) 56th Festival of Sport (FOS) Opening Ceremony was successfully concluded today (2 March) at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium, to kick off the annual mega “Sport for All” event.
The Federation was honoured to have invited Mr. Timothy T. T. FOK, GBS, JP, President of SF&OC, Mrs. Betty FUNG, JP, Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Mr. Alex LEE Wing Kwai, Chief Operating Officer of Bank of China (Hong Kong), Mr. Karl C. KWOK, MH, Chairman of the BOCHK 56th FOS Organizing Committee and Mr. PANG Chung, SBS, BBS, Hon. Secretary General of SF&OC to officiate at the Ceremony. Ambassadors of BOCHK 56th Festival of Sport, Mr. SHEK Wai Hung (Gymnastics), Ms. Annie AU Wing Chi (Squash), Ms. Carat CHEUNG (Miss HONG KONG 2012) shared their enthusiasm in sports participation and demonstrated physical exercise during the Ceremony. In addition, local singers and artists also attended to support FOS, including Mr. Jonathan WONG, Mr. Tak DIK, Ms. Rainky WAI, “Super Gear”, Ms. Yuri CHAN, Mr. Penny CHAN, Ms. Cindy LEE and Ms. Kelly CHEUNG, joined together to promote the message of “Sport for All” to the public.
Various programmes were presented at the Ceremony, apart from singing performance by artists, “BOCHK Charitable Foundation Badminton Friendly Match” was arranged between Mr. TAM Chun Hei, serving Badminton athlete, Mr. Penny CHAN, Ms. Kelly CHEUNG and representative of BOCHK Badminton team. Other opening programmes included Indoor Rowing Friendly Competition, various sports demonstrations of Artistic Cycling, Gymnastics, Fencing, Katatedo, Lion Dance and Chinese drum performance etc. A condensed programme of the Opening Ceremony will broadcast at the Jade Channel of TVB tomorrow (i.e. 3 March 2013) at 3:30pm.
A certificate presentation ceremony of the “Sports Legacy” Scheme was also held during the Ceremony. The Federation was honoured to have the support from Bank of China (Hong Kong) and “Sports For Hope” Foundation, being the sponsors of the first 2 phases of the Scheme, i.e. Pilot Scheme of Sports Legacy and Experimental Stage of Sports Legacy respectively. 4 secondary schools located at Tin Shui Wai, North District and Tai Po (i.e. Heung To Middle School (Tin Shui Wai), Queen Elizabeth School Old Students’ Association Tong Kwok Wah Secondary School, Wong Shiu Chi Secondary School and Sheung Shui Government Secondary School), involving over 3,000 students are currently benefited from this scheme. To appreciate the remarkable feedback attained by the participating schools, students and retired athletes in this scheme, Mr. PANG Chung, Mr. Alex LEE Wing Kwai, and Ms. Marie-Christine LEE, Founding Chairman of Sports For Hope Foundation presented certificates to 20 outstanding students, encouraging them to strive for their best in sports.
Throughout March to June 2013, the Federation and 65 National Sports Associations of the Federation will organize more than 80 sports events, to encourage the Hong Kong citizens for active participation in sports in their spare time and thus maintaining a healthy lifestyle. In addition, the FOS Photo Contest will be held again this year, aiming to attract more people to participate in the FOS, promoting the theme of “Sport for All”. All Hong Kong citizens are welcomed to join the Contest.
