Hong Kong Athletes Career & Education Programme (HKACEP) Retired Athletes Career Certificate Presentation Ceremony was held on 27 April 2013 (today) afternoon at President’s Office of Olympic House. Guests including the Hon. MA Fung-kwok, SBS, JP, Legislative Councillor representing the Sports, Performing Arts, Culture and Publication Functional Constituency, Mr. Vincent CHIU, Acting Principal Assistant Secretary (Recreation and Sports) of Home Affairs Bureau, Mr. Timothy T.T. FOK, GBS, JP, President of the Federation, representatives of National Sports Associations, education institutions and supporting corporations were invited to officiate at the Ceremony. Over 50 retired athletes were awarded and over 20 attendees received the Career Certificates issued by the Federation.
Mr. Timothy FOK thanked the education institutions and supporting corporations’ support. He also mentioned that this Ceremony provides an opportunity to allow the potential junior athletes to better understand full-time athletic career path and post-athletic career support. He anticipated that more athletes would strive for the best for Hong Kong in future.
The Hon. MA Fung-kwok appreciated this valuable occasion in meeting with the related retired athletes and stakeholders in sports industry. He added that being a Legislative Councillor, he would fight for reasonable resources from the Hong Kong Government for the betterment of the Hong Kong sports development in the long run.
Introduction of HKACEP:
HKACEP, under the auspices of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China and financially supported by Home Affairs Bureau for the establishment of HKACEP Office since September 2008, providing career, education and life skills supports to retired and retiring athletes. As at 31 March 2012, HKACEP has been providing various supports to over 300 athletes under 42 National Sports Associations. In which, the HKACEP Committee had approved $1.5M education scholarships to 217 retired and retiring athletes for academic related enhancement. The courses include language enhancement, Certificates, Diplomas, Advanced Diplomas, Associate Degrees and Bachelor Degrees. Meanwhile, 56 retired athletes were secured full-time or part-times jobs through HKACEP job placement support in 16 local corporations.
