Hong Kong Athletes Career & Education Programme (HKACEP) Athletes’ Post-Athletic Career Development Tea Reception cum Caring Organization for Retired Athletes Award Presentation was held on 6 August 2013 (today) afternoon at President’s Office of Olympic House. Guests including Miss Petty LAI, Acting Deputy Secretary for Home Affairs (Recreation & Sport) of Home Affairs Bureau, Mr. Timothy FOK, GBS, JP, President of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (the Federation), Mr. Victor HUI, GBS, JP, Chairman of HKACEP Committee and Vice President of the Federation, Mr. PANG Chung, SBS, BBS, Vice Chairman of HKACEP Committee and Hon. Secretary General of the Federation, representatives of the awarded supporting corporations and 3 retired athletes representatives who attained successful career transformation, including Ms. LO Pan Pan (retired fencer), Mr. CHUNG Koon Ting (retired athletic athlete) and Mr. CHENG Ka Ho (retired wushu athlete) were invited to officiate at the Ceremony. During the reception, benefitted athletes and their respective senior management came forth to share their achievements via the Federation’s successful job matching.
Mr. Timothy FOK thanked the supporting corporations and education institutions’ generous supports to the retired athletes in the past 4 years since the establishment of HKACEP in 2008. With collective effort of all stakeholders, athletes could have better planning before athletic retirement and entitlement of post-athletic career support through the introduction of athletics’ post-athletic career development plan by HKACEP. He hoped that this experience sharing of the benefitted athletes’ successful career transformation could encourage more corporations’ supports to retired athletes and also draw public attention to the importance of athletes’ post-athletic career planning which plays a major role in sports development in Hong Kong.
Miss Petty LAI was glad to witness the retired athletes, through education, life skills training and job matching supported by HKACEP, had successfully transformed to their “second career” after sport. She added that athletes, with their unique characteristics including perseverance, self-discipline and good time management, could possess a competitive advantage in career market.
In recognition of the corporations’ staunch supports in offering the widest variety of jobs including life skills training and/or internship opportunities and sponsoring free language courses/scholarships to retired athletes, the “Caring Organization for Retired Athletes” certificates were awarded to the following supporting corporations:

Introduction of HKACEP:
HKACEP, under the auspices of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China and financially supported by Home Affairs Bureau for the establishment of HKACEP Office since September 2008, has been providing career, education and life skills supports to retired and retiring athletes. As at 29 July 2013, HKACEP has been providing various supports to over 300 athletes under 42 National Sports Associations.
