The Experimental Stage of “Sports Legacy” Scheme Certificate Presentation Ceremony

The Certificate Presentation Ceremony of the Experimental Stage of “Sports Legacy” Scheme (the Scheme) organized by the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (the Federation) was successfully conducted on 16 September 2013 (today) at the Jockey Club Lecture Theatre of Olympic House. Officiating guests including Ms. Marie-Christine LEE, Founding Chairman of the “Sports for Hope Foundation” (the Foundation), Mr. Victor HUI, GBS, JP, Chairman of HKACEP Committee and Vice President of the Federation, Mr. PANG Chung, SBS, BBS, Vice Chairman of HKACEP Committee and Hon. Secretary General of the Federation, Ms. YAN Kin Foon, Principal of Sheung Shui Government Secondary School and Mr. HO Chi Lap, Principal of WONG Shiu Chi Secondary School.  In recognition of the students’ outstanding performance in the past one year, certificates were awarded to the student athletes of the two benefitted schools in the “Best Performance”, “Most Improvement” and “Active Participation” respectively, by way of encouraging their continued efforts in sports. 

With the staunch support of the “Sports for Hope Foundation”, the Scheme has been benefitting over 1,000 students of the two participating schools. In which, the overall sports performance has so far been upgraded while school sports culture has been pushed forward.  Mr. Victor HUI, Chairman of the HKACEP Committee and Vice President of the Federation thanked the “Sports for Hope Foundation” by presenting the two souvenir t-shirts autographed by the student athletes and principals of the two benefitted schools to Ms. LEE, Founding Chairman of the Foundation during the Ceremony. He hoped that more potential student athletes could be identified and nurtured through the Scheme, aiming to be outstanding athletes.

Introduction of “Sports Legacy” Scheme

The Sports Legacy Scheme is an interactive platform for retired athletes and students to pursue their dreams in sports, retired athletes are encouraged to implement a systematic talent identification and hence, by providing regular training using their sport specific skills and experience to cultivate students of selected schools, in particular the underprivileged in the remote area. Through the spread of Olympism and Olympic value to path their ways to pursue their “Olympic dreams”.

With belief of “Sport changes life, making your Olympic dream come true”, the Hong Kong Athletes Career and Education Programme (HKACEP), under the auspices of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) and supported by the Sports for Hope Foundation, launched the “Sports Legacy Scheme – Experimental Stage” (the Scheme) in September 2012.  With collective effort of SF&OC, the sponsor, retired athletes, and the two benefitted schools (i.e. Sheung Shui Government School and Wong Shiu Chi Secondary School), the Scheme has been benefitting over 1,000 students in promoting sports culture in schools and respective sports trainings including athletic, fencing and football. Upon the request of the two benefitted schools and with the view of encouraging more students to be active in sports, a team sport of basketball will be newly added in the Scheme for this school year.
